Developer DAWJunkie has released Craze, a free crunchy phaser effect for macOS and Windows.

The start of a new year is often when we hope and plan for change.

But when it comes to DAWJunkie, I just want more of the same, and, as expected, the increasingly popular developer has delivered.

DAWJunkie’s latest release is Craze, a free crunchy phaser effect available in AU, VST, and AAX formats for macOS and Windows.

You can download Craze by entering a first name and email address. You’ll receive download links for Mac, Windows, and Pro Tools almost instantly.

When I say I want more of the same from DAWJunkie, I mean the developer’s usual approach of supplying a free plugin with the option to upgrade to a fuller-featured big brother for just $1.

If you’re new to DAWJunkie, more of the same doesn’t reflect a lack of variety in their freebies; check out Lil Miss Doubler (vocal doubler), DSS-130SE (Yamaha PSS-130 tribute), and Lil Bottom (bass synth).

Craze is a simple plugin with a handful of adjustable parameters and some nice factory presets.

You can decide how crunchy the phaser effect is with the Crunch and Crush knobs. It’s anything from subtle warmth (which is nice on slower phaser effects with little feedback) to full-on over-saturated mayhem.

You can adjust the Shape, Speed, FB, and Mix settings to craft your ideal phaser.

Pushing the feedback and Mix settings too high at the same time gets a little too crazy for me, unless you’re going for some sort of sonic meltdown to end a piece or enter a new section.

But if you’re conservative there, you can be more aggressive in other areas, and get some lovely results.

Craze also features Lo Cut, Shimmer, and Output controls.

DAWJunkie freebies are typically worthwhile as they are, but the option to upgrade for just $1 is always tempting and offers various benefits.

In this case, by upgrading to Craze Pro for $1, you’ll get an extended feature set, including dedicated Left/Right frequency controls and more detailed EQ and Modulation parameters.

So be sure to check it out!
